2. Natural Exfoliants
Homemade and celebrity-endorsed body scrubs often contain plastic microbeads that can be beneficial for your skin but harmful for the environment. Unfortunately, these tiny granules can slip past waste-water treatment systems and end up in rivers or oceans where they endanger wildlife that eat them. Luckily there are natural alternatives available as alternatives to plastic microbeads.
Sugar can serve as a gentle exfoliant for both face and body when mixed with oils to form a scrub, providing access to glycolic acid – an alpha hydroxy acid which breaks down protein that keeps dead skin cells from naturally shedding; helping shed away dead cells for natural exfoliation while diminishing brown spots and wrinkles in turn.
Mashed papaya contains papain, an enzyme that dissolves dead skin cells without hurting living ones underneath (similar to prescription retinol but without irritation). You could also try exfoliating with raw sugar or bentonite clay – these plant-based skincare products offer both environmental and skin-health benefits!
