Why Girls Should Use Sanitary Pads

Girls often wear pads all day, so finding one that feels good and stays put is of utmost importance. Comfort also depends on absorbency levels as well as whether or not an option has odour-control properties.

Some girls opt for eco-friendly sanitary pads free from fragrances, chemicals and chlorine bleaching while others prefer reusable pads that they can wash and reuse multiple times.

Absorbency

Sanitary pads’ most essential attribute is their capacity to absorb menstrual fluid. There are different styles and shapes of sanitary pads on the market – some feature wings for side leakage prevention, while others boast soft topsheets to feel good against your skin.

Disposable pads employ SAP (polyacrylate), an absorbent material used to lock away moisture and odor. They come either granular or powdered; in its granular form it’s spread out evenly across a fluff pulp layer before folding, where it absorbs into a centralized absorbent structure before being covered by nonwoven fabric layers.

SAP can then be combined with hydrocarbon-based odor control and barrier layers to enhance performance of sanitary pads. In some instances, manufacturers also add layers of cellulose for softness against your skin – some products even come in organic cotton material!

Comfort

Sanitary pads offer more comfort than tampons and should be worn day or night for optimal period health. Their absorbency ensures wetness does not cause itching while their use helps minimize leaks that could potentially cause discomfort and infections.

Pads come in various sizes, lengths, and wing options to meet your preferences and typical flow. For new periodators, an unscented regular-sized pad designed for light to moderate flow may be best; slimmer designs may provide more comfort while remaining discreet under clothing.

For heavier flow rates, try selecting a super pad with extra absorbency. These pads may include wings for better fitting and an ion strip patented for odor control. If environmental concerns are paramount to you, choose an eco-friendly pad without dyes, chemicals, chlorine and fragrance – these can even be washed and reused multiple times for significant environmental savings.

Hygiene

Girls should be encouraged to regularly wash their hands, particularly before and after changing tampons or pads, in order to reduce the risk of vaginal infections such as cystitis.

Pads are rectangular strips of absorbent material designed to attach directly to a girl’s underwear and capture menstrual blood. As each pad varies in shape and size, it’s essential that you find one that best meets your needs – some even come equipped with extra material on either side that folds over into “wings”, providing protection from leakage on side leakage incidents.

Modern feminine hygiene materials are thin and made with air-laid technology to facilitate rapid absorption of menstrual blood quickly while staying put against your skin. Furthermore, modern products feature nonwoven top sheets designed to keep the skin feeling dry and comfortable; additionally they include absorbent products like tampons and panty shields – these materials play a pivotal role in managing menstruation for millions of women and girls worldwide.

Disposal

Menstrual products generate an enormous amount of waste. Sanitary pads are one of the most widely used menstrual products and they’re often disposable, taking centuries to decompose in landfills and creating further pollution issues. Tampons can also be discarded when flushed down the toilet causing plumbing issues and ecological harm.

Reusable menstrual cups have gained in popularity in recent years as they reduce waste production, yet finding and purchasing these can still be challenging and expensive.

As soon as sanitary pads have been used, they should never be flushed down the toilet as this can clog drains and require costly plumbing repairs. When possible, use a dedicated menstrual waste bin, otherwise, place your pad inside a plastic bag before placing in the garbage bin for disposal – this will contain leakage or odors while decreasing space taken up by waste in general.
