Bakuchiol is an anti-ageing and soothing plant-based skincare ingredient with anti-irritation benefits that makes an excellent addition to sensitive or easily irritated skin care regimens. Pairing it with soothing ingredients like shea butter or chamomile only compounds these effects further.

As opposed to retinol, bakuchiol is unlikely to cause irritation; however, Penzi recommends performing an at-home patch test prior to using any new product or ingredient for the first time to determine any possible reactions.

1. Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

Bakuchiol boosts collagen production to ensure smoother skin and help minimize fine lines and wrinkles, without breaking down in sunlight, making it an ideal daytime serum to add into your morning routine or nighttime formula for layering over hydrating products.

Preliminary industry trials have indicated it to have similar anti-aging effects as retinol; however, additional high-quality studies will need to take place in order to verify these findings and understand how it affects real skin.

Bakuchiol serum can be added into any skincare routine, even those containing other actives; however, prescription-strength retinoids or vitamin C formulas should be avoided to avoid irritation. Niacinamide or hyaluronic acid is the ideal combination for creating glow and brightness; try pairing this serum with one of them over several nights as an introductory phase to ensure safety and avoid potential irritation. We strongly suggest performing a patch test prior to adding Bakuchiol into your regimen and wearing sunscreen daily in addition to whatever skincare product contains actives they contain!

2. Reduces the appearance of hyperpigmentation

Bakuchiol works similarly to retinol in stimulating collagen production and increasing cell turnover, but with less likely risk of dryness or irritation on sensitive skin. As such it makes an excellent solution.

Helps reduce hyperpigmentation by balancing skin tone and making it look more even. It does this by inhibiting melanin transfer between melanocytes (the source of pigment production) and outer skin cells such as keratinocytes, thus limiting excess pigment distribution across complexion for an overall brighter and more even look.

As a milder alternative to retinol, bakuchiol can be an invaluable addition at all stages of life. For those in their 20s it serves as an anti-ageing ingredient which prevents fine lines and wrinkles while in mature skin it provides corrective support against existing signs of aging.

3. Smoothes the skin

Bakuchiol stimulates collagen production to decrease fine lines and wrinkles while improving skin elasticity, helping balance melanin synthesis to even out discolorations and create even skin tone. Gentle enough for daily or twice-daily use without causing dryness, redness, or peeling like other retinoids can.

Bakuchiol can be found in serums and oils, usually combined with various skincare ingredients to maximize its benefits. Reviva’s Bakuchiol Plus Serum features ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid, Melatonin Artichoke Extract and Vitamin C in order to increase elasticity, protect from oxidative stress and maintain youthful skin complexion.

Before using a bakuchiol product on your skin type, Penzi emphasizes its importance to conduct a patch test on your inner forearm for two or three nights in a row – and don’t forget to finish each day off by applying broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 protection or higher!

4. Fights signs of aging

Bakuchiol has created quite a stir as an effective, plant-based alternative to retinol. A study published by the British Journal of Dermatology demonstrated its efficacy at reducing wrinkles and pigmentation as effectively without peeling or redness associated with traditional forms of treatment.

Bakuchiol works to accelerate cell turnover and collagen production, and is effective at reducing fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation. Additionally, its non-irritating nature and photostability makes it an ideal choice for sensitive or acne-prone skin as it won’t trigger irritation-inducing pathways like vitamin A can.

As an added benefit, bakuchiol doesn’t thin the skin barrier or cause itching like other retinoids can. But it should be noted that it should not replace retinol; they work best together. Combine its benefits with soothing botanical ingredients like chamomile and alfalfa for maximum skin radiance. This combination creates balanced, radiant skin.
