Biodegradable Pads – Eco-Friendly and Comfortable

Traditional sanitary pads contain plastics and chemicals which cause itching, rashes, and other health problems for women. Furthermore, they take several hundred years to decompose in landfills, creating significant amounts of waste and pollution.

Conventional pads cause most of their impacts through upstream processes, followed by core processes and printing paper production. To reduce environmental footprint, more sustainable materials like organic cotton, bamboo fiber and decomposable polylactic granulate may be employed such as those that decompose into carbon dioxide over time.

Skin-Friendly

Biodegradable pads differ from traditional pads by being composed of eco-friendly materials like bamboo pulp and organic cotton, instead of toxic dyes used with conventional pads. By eliminating synthetic chemicals and dyes altogether, they help prevent skin reactions as well as lessen plastic waste while simultaneously protecting our planet!

Regular pads often contain plastic and chemical gels which may irritate and harm the delicate area of the vulva and lead to skin rashes and irritations, given how readily these substances are absorbed into this delicate region of skin.

Jeff Bates of the University of Utah Materials Science and Engineering assistant professor (lecturer), has led a team of students in developing an entirely biodegradable feminine maxi pad dubbed SHERO Pad that’s fully biodegradable and fully effective. It features an outer layer made of raw cotton similar to tea bags; transfer layer that repels liquid; super absorbent core made from processed algae; and finally cotton shield layer to keep moisture at bay – creating thin yet comfortable and reliable protection for its user.

Environment-Friendly

Biodegradable pads differ from their traditional plastic-made counterparts in that they’re constructed of organic cotton and bamboo fibers for breathability, helping reduce chances of skin irritation, itching, or rashes during menstruation. Furthermore, they promote vaginal health and lower the risk of infections.

Conventional pads contain synthetic chemicals, artificial fragrances and dyes which can harm your skin and lead to hormone imbalance. Furthermore, using regular pads may lead to rashes, allergies or infection within the vaginal tract resulting from microorganism growth such as bacteria or yeast colonies that lead to infection or unpleasant odor.

Proper disposal of earth-friendly sanitary pads is key to their safe use and effectiveness, and should be placed in a separate waste bin to avoid contamination and speed up their decomposition process. This ensures they do not interfere with non-biodegradable waste products and thus minimizing environmental damage.

Hypoallergenic

Regular sanitary pads contain chemicals, plastics and other materials which may lead to skin rashes, irritation, or allergic reactions; biodegradable ones do not. Furthermore, their breathable design provides optimal comfort while keeping you cool throughout the day.

Organic cotton is another natural and eco-friendly material option that is hypoallergenic, sourced sustainably and decomposing quickly in soil to create rich compost for use as fertilizer to increase crop yields.

Hidayati and Iryani 2019) note the use of eco-friendly materials like bamboo pulp in menstrual products as an effort to decrease dependence on nonrenewable resources and eliminate toxic processing chemicals (Hidayati & Iryani 2019). Bamboo pulp provides superior absorbency, breathability, and antibacterial protection – essential features of menstrual hygiene that should not be neglected! Choosing eco-friendly, plant-based feminine care helps lower landfill waste while contributing towards a greener planet.

Comfortable

Traditional pads contain hidden chemicals, plastics and artificial fragrances which irritate skin conditions such as rashes or infections while taking centuries to break down and damage the environment. Women have therefore turned to biodegradable sanitary products which are free from these toxic elements that are both eco-friendly and comfortable to wear.

Biodegradable sanitary napkins are made of natural bio-based materials that decompose quickly under industrial composting conditions, helping reduce landfill waste and pollution while also contributing to environmental sustainability.

Fluus has designed and produced the world’s first flushable period pad that is 100% natural and plant-based, plastic free and creates zero waste. Made from cellulose plant fibers that absorb 15% more than their competitor market leader. Simply use, rinse and flush! For ease of use you can even purchase an applicator. An ideal alternative for those unable to use reusable pads.
