Health and wellness gummies are chewable vitamins designed to tempt children. Though initially intended as treats for kids, they have since become a popular supplement among adults as well.

Taste good and are simple to take. They may help those with difficulty swallowing pills as well. Unfortunately, however, they do not provide all of the same benefits of traditional vitamins.

They Taste Like Candy

Gummy supplements have blurred the boundaries between health and wellness products and candy, especially with regard to chewable vitamins that resemble candy–Flinstones multivitamins or Sour Patch Kids for instance–while also tasting like them.

Gummy supplements represent a $7 billion industry, yet many fail to provide the optimal balance of sweetness and nutrition due to too much sugar content in some brands.

They Are Easy to Take

Gummies provide an enjoyable and straightforward way to take vitamins. Gummies also make for an effective way to establish healthier habits: for instance, sleep improvement advocates might take melatonin-infused gummies at bedtime in order to establish better sleeping patterns; creating this association between taking the gummies as part of daily ritual can make taking your vitamins much simpler!

Wellness gummies are typically created using ingredients selected to support mental and physical wellness, in keeping with the current wellness movement. Common ingredients include ashwagandha, CBD oil and melatonin; these gummies can help relieve stress, improve mood and support immune function among other things.

However, it’s essential to read labels carefully and select gummies with low sugar contents as too much refined sugar can contribute to obesity, high blood pressure and heart disease – not to mention poor dental health and increased risks of depression.

They Have a Limited Shelf Life

As with any food product, gummies have a limited shelf life and must be stored properly to retain flavor and effectiveness. Consuming expired gummies won’t pose any harmful effects but may no longer deliver the desired wellness benefits.

Gummies tend to last longer in cooler environments. Heat, moisture and sunlight should all be avoided; you could also store them in the fridge to extend their shelf life.

Refrigeration extends gummy’s lifespan by slowing cannabinoid degradation and preventing mold growth, but can alter their texture. Look out for hard or sticky texture, off flavors or smells and unusual odors to determine when they have lost potency and will no longer support wellness goals such as energy, sleep or balance support. Consumers who rely on these supplements need this knowledge in order to replace their supplements with newer gummies for best results.

They Contain Too Much Sugar

Gummy vitamins often contain an abundance of sugar. Manufacturers rely on this sweet substance to create chewy textures and flavors in their gummies; its sweet presence helps mask some unpleasant tastes found in iron, vitamin C and B-vitamin supplements – without this additional sweet element, taking vitamins would likely be difficult and unpleasant.

Sugar-free candies often still contain one or more grams of sugar per serving depending on their brand, while typically made using sweeteners like xylitol and erythritol which do not lead to tooth decay or cause spikes in blood sugar.

Alternative sugar-free remedies include sublingual tablets that dissolve sublingually under the tongue to bypass digestive processes and eliminate added sugars. Capsules also offer precise dosage control than gummies and have better bioavailability (meaning less nutrients are lost during production).
