Migraines can be debilitating conditions. Their pain, light and sound sensitivity and auras make life unbearable for those affected, making work and leisure tasks virtually impossible to perform effectively or enjoy fully.

Pills and painkillers may provide temporary relief, but do not address the cause of migraine headaches. Holistic approaches offer more comprehensive relief.

Inhaling Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender essential oil has been shown to effectively alleviate headache and migraine symptoms. Essential oils are highly concentrated liquids derived from plant leaves, stems, flowers, bark and roots and their aroma can be applied topically or inhaled directly for stress reduction and blood pressure lowering benefits. Lavender’s linalool and linalyl acetate compounds act as antidepressants while simultaneously relieving tension in muscles for soothing relaxation and relieving tension headache episodes; according to one clinical trial involving patients who inhaled lavender oil daily over three months their migraine and tension headache episodes were less frequent and milder!

Lavender’s soothing aroma and relaxing properties make it the ideal remedy for tension-linked headaches, while its relaxing properties promote restful sleep. Simply inhaling lavender through a diffuser or applying it directly can provide quick and effective relief; lavender oil has even been used to relieve pain from burns, cuts and wounds as well as postpartum women experiencing menstrual cramps! A 2020 study confirmed this finding!

Ginger

Ginger root has long been used to alleviate nausea and headache pain, according to research published in Journal of Clinical Psychiatry on December 2. These findings show that ginger can serve as an effective home-remedy option for patients who do not want or can not take prescription drugs.

Studies have proven that ginger can effectively ease migraine symptoms such as pain, nausea and vomiting. Its oils may tame prostaglandins that stimulate muscle contractions while controlling inflammation and impacting hormonal levels.

Ginger oil should be applied directly onto your wrists where points associated with your stomach channel are located and on your belly. You can also mix one drop in with carrier oils like coconut or olive and inhale the aroma. Other essential oils that may help settle and reduce nausea include fennel, coriander and peppermint – these too may be added to scented diffusers for inhalation.

Yoga

Yoga can provide an effective holistic solution for migraine headaches. Yoga reduces frequency, length and intensity while simultaneously alleviating anxiety, stress relief, muscle tension reduction and increasing blood circulation throughout the body.

Migraines can be excruciatingly painful and come with all sorts of unpleasant side effects like nausea, slurred speech and vision changes. Migraines differ significantly from regular head pain in terms of symptoms and severity, making it easy to misdiagnose them as other health conditions requiring medical treatment – perhaps a stroke for example.

Though there is not enough research to back alternative treatments as migraine cures, those suffering from chronic migraines may opt for holistic remedies such as acupuncture, herbal medicine and relaxation training as possible solutions. Acupuncture may work by stimulating the vagus nerve, which links brain and organ systems while controlling some hormones within the body.

Food Diary

Food diaries can be an invaluable asset when trying to identify migraine triggers and avoid headaches. A food diary allows you to discover exactly which foods may be triggering headaches and makes cutting out certain food groups easier than ever before.

Studies have indicated that MSG in liquid form, an abundance or shortage of caffeine and alcohol are among the primary triggers of migraines; however, individual experiences may differ and experimenting is the best way to find what works for you.

Feverfew can also help ease migraine-induced throbbing, and its long history of medicinal use makes it a reliable natural solution to migraine pain relief. Furthermore, ginger may ease nausea associated with migraine attacks while even helping prevent future episodes from occurring.
