2. Anxiety Relief
CBD can reduce anxiety symptoms without the side effects associated with some prescription, including benzodiazepines and antidepressants. Furthermore, laboratory studies have demonstrated its efficacy against anxiety more effectively than THC-rich cannabis products.
Our survey respondents most often used CBD sublingually at dosages below 50 mg each day and reported its effectiveness for their perceived anxiety, stress, and sleep problems. Adjusted logistic models demonstrated how use patterns differ depending on symptoms (see supplementary materials for details).
Studies show that most CBD users endorse using it to alleviate their anxiety symptoms, which echoes research findings. Anxiety is one of the primary reasons Australians seek medicinal marijuana prescription, typically using products rich in THC as treatment.
3. Sleep Aid
Insomnia is a prevalent sleep disorder that can significantly diminish quality of life. It may cause feelings of anxiety and depression, making focusing on daily tasks difficult. Furthermore, poor-quality rest reduces pain tolerance levels while heightening overall wellbeing levels.
CBD may help with insomnia by decreasing wakefulness and improving sleep quality, relaxing muscles and slowing brain activity that cause wakefulness.
An investigation was undertaken to assess the efficacy of CBD in treating adult psychiatric patients who primarily sought assistance for anxiety or poor sleep at a psychiatric clinic as an adjunctive measure. Anxiety and sleep scores were monitored monthly against baseline, and results demonstrated that CBD significantly enhanced both symptoms.
4. Stress Relief
Many individuals turn to CBD for various symptoms including pain, perceived anxiety, stress and sleep issues; however, most use cases have not been scientifically assessed in randomized controlled trials in which individuals would either receive CBD or an inactive placebo medicine as treatments.

When we asked participants about their experiences with CBD, almost half reported it helping them sleep. Other benefits reported by younger respondents included relaxation, decreased pain levels and feelings of euphoria or “highness.”
5. Mental Health
CBD has shown promising results in clinical trials for several mental health conditions. One such trial found that CBD could significantly reduce anxiety symptoms in people living with PTSD; and others suggest it can assist depression patients by increasing serotonin levels in the brain while decreasing stress levels.
However, more research needs to be conducted in a clinical setting in order to verify these claims and it’s essential for patients using CBD to inform their physician if they’re taking other prescription.
Unfortunately, many people use CBD for anxiety and depression without informing their doctors, which makes it more difficult for physicians to monitor patients’ health and assess whether the CBD is helping or hindering. Furthermore, interactions between CBD and existing medication could potentially become dangerous.
