Natural ingredients can help your skin remain vibrant and healthy. These substances tend to be more gentle on your skin, as well as more eco-friendly than synthetic alternatives.

But, what exactly does “natural” entail and what are its differences with organic and natural-origin ingredients? Keep reading to gain more understanding.

Skin Care

Organic skincare products provide a healthy alternative to many conventional cosmetics, containing natural oils such as jojoba and shea to replace potentially dangerous ingredients such as petrolatum. Furthermore, natural skincare can treat acne and eczema effectively while offering anti-ageing benefits by protecting skin from sun damage.

Natural ingredients are often more environmentally-friendly as they’re renewable and biodegradable, while natural skincare products tend to avoid harsh chemicals like parabens and phthalates, while also avoiding irritating sulfates that strip skin of its natural oils, leading to irritation.

Natural skin care ingredients offer many advantages to skin health, such as moisturizing, softening and brightening it. But not all natural ingredients are created equally; therefore it’s important to read labels when purchasing products made from them. It is also worth remembering that “natural” doesn’t always equate to non-toxic as some natural substances may still cause harm – for optimal safety select a skin care product tested and approved by ISO so as to meet specific safety criteria.

Food

Have you recently seen food products with “natural ingredients and flavors?” Many shoppers mistakenly assume these options are healthier, since natural conjures up images of green vegetables, healthy animals and unprocessed food products.

However, the FDA does not have a precise definition of what qualifies as natural ingredients. Furthermore, there can be differences between natural, natural-origin and organic ingredients; natural and natural-origin ingredients have generally undergone less processing while organic ones cannot.

Natural flavorings are created from extracts, oils and essences derived from fruits, vegetables, spices and herbs; however they also contain solvents and emulsifiers used during their extraction process – including solvents and emulsifiers that pose risks to those with allergies or diet restrictions, flavor enhancers known as excitotoxins such as phenylacetyl sulfide and methylglycine that may present problems for those suffering gastrointestinal conditions or diabetes.

Beverages

Beverages that contain natural ingredients are increasingly becoming the go-to choice among consumers who prioritize health. Natural ingredients tend to be more beneficial than their synthetic equivalents in terms of helping boost immunity, digestive health and even sleep quality.

Though “natural” may imply that ingredients are safe, it’s important to keep in mind that natural doesn’t always equate to safe. Even though an ingredient found naturally may exist within it, in large doses it could still be toxic – particularly plant extracts like foxglove and poison ivy which should never be consumed directly from nature. Chemically altering an ingredient provides more control over its safety and efficacy.

Natural functional ingredients can be added to beverages in the form of dry extracts, dilutable compounds, or syrups for color and flavor enhancement as well as therapeutic purposes such as anti-inflammatory effects or increased metabolism.
