Employee wellness has become a top priority for many companies. Studies show that when employees believe their company cares for their wellbeing, they perform better at work.
Purposive and snowball sampling were employed to conduct focus groups and interviews with current staff and students of an educational institute, to explore five main themes related to the impact and experience of new well-being support services.
Make time for social wellness.
Social wellness is an integral component of overall well-being and can impact everything from stress hormone levels to blood pressure. While all relationships have their ups and downs, healthy social connections can improve mental wellbeing by providing a sense of connection, purpose, and belongingness.
Forming and nurturing healthy relationships with friends, family, coworkers, and other acquaintances are essential to social wellness. To do this effectively requires learning effective communication techniques that allow you to express your needs and feelings clearly while empathizing with others and creating meaningful connections with strangers.
Engaging in community life also involves participating in groups, clubs, and volunteer opportunities; but it’s essential to strike a balance between socializing and personal time so as to avoid becoming overextended. Make time for hobbies you enjoy or trying new activities that foster friendships – quality social interactions matter more than quantity; having supportive networks during times of challenge is invaluable in building emotional resilience.
Invest in your mental health.
Investing in mental health means practicing good self-care habits like exercising regularly, eating healthily and getting enough rest. Additionally, this involves building positive feelings about oneself and developing meaningful, trustful relationships. Looking after one’s mental wellbeing has also been shown to reduce stress levels which has lead to improved physical outcomes like lower blood pressure levels and better sleeping patterns.
As companies prioritize employee mental well-being, they are more likely to achieve higher productivity levels in the workplace. For instance, workers receiving treatment for depression experience greater job satisfaction and productivity levels compared to peers who do not seek help.
This year, the coalition plans to gather diverse stakeholder groups together in order to pilot financing innovations that derisk investing in mental health – such as social impact bonds and outcome-based funding – which will increase the likelihood of innovative approaches reaching those who need them while broadening funders’ appreciation that investing in mental health provides a societal return.
Practice self-care.
Self-care involves engaging in activities to maintain physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. This may involve activities like exercising regularly, eating nutritious meals, sleeping enough hours and using relaxation techniques; or creating healthy coping mechanisms during times of stress.
Self-care improves productivity at both work and home, reduces stress and anxiety levels, increases self-esteem and can even boost immunity. Making self-care a top priority is essential; as the saying goes: You cannot pour from an empty cup.
Establishing healthy self-care practices takes time and dedication. It’s essential that you experiment with various techniques until you find one that resonates with you; be sure to pay close attention to how each activity makes you feel physically and emotionally as time progresses, then commit to making the practice part of your routine so as to avoid burn out while making hard days easier to endure.
Get support.
Emotional well-being can be improved through taking steps to strengthen physical health and social relationships. But its success also depends on how well other aspects of your life are functioning, for instance if emotional and financial wellbeing are not healthy enough it may make developing skills harder in other areas.
