Natural lubricants offer a safer alternative to traditional lubes. Containing less chemicals, natural lubricants are less likely to cause irritation while helping maintain vaginal and vulva health.
For optimal results, seek an oil-free lube without fragrances or ingredients that could trigger an allergic reaction, such as flavor lubes that often contain glucose – this feeds yeast growth in your vagina. To get optimal results from using lubes without oil and any ingredients that could trigger an adverse reaction such as flavoring agents (for instance flavored lubes can often contain glucose which turns to sugar quickly), opting for unflavored alternatives instead is often preferable to using flavor lubes with glucose which quickly turns to sugar feeding yeast growth inside.
Coconut oil
Coconut oil is a well-known natural lubricant widely available at grocery stores. As an edible product, it melts at 77 degrees Fahrenheit and can be used during intimate encounters as personal lubrication; however, caution must be exercised as it may not be appropriate for people suffering from vaginal infections or sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Acidic substances may disturb the vagina’s acidic pH balance and result in yeast infections; as a result, this treatment is not advised for pregnant women.
Natural lubricants are unmodified products, free from parabens, petroleum by-products, glycerin, alcohol and PABA additives. Furthermore, these tend to form thicker coatings and last longer than water-based or silicone solutions.
Aloe vera
Aloe vera is a natural lubricant that can be used during sexual activity to lubricate vaginal tissue and provide soothing moisturization, making it an excellent option for people with latex sensitivities or allergies; additionally it’s safe for anal sex but it should first be patch tested to avoid adverse reactions.
Aloe vera is not only an exceptional lubricant but also an anti-inflammatory, helping soothe irritated skin and acting as an effective treatment against vaginal infections. Additionally, its abundant supply of vitamins and minerals benefits reproductive organs.
Ghee is another natural option for lubrication, thicker than water-based solutions and lasting longer. While suitable for penetrative sex, as it could break condoms. Unfortunately, however, its dairy components make it unsuitable for women who suffer lactose intolerance.
Ghee
Ghee is clarified butter with numerous health advantages. It can serve as a natural lubricant during intimate encounters without chemicals and fragrances being present; used as cooking oil it adds flavor to food; massaged into vaginal tissue to moisturizer; added essential oils can offer further benefits, such as lavender for soothing effects or ylang ylang for sexual stimulation.
Ghee contains long-chain fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K that can be easily absorbed through the skin to improve bone density, lubrication and inflammation as well as support a healthy digestive system and metabolism. Furthermore, ghee contains conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), an anti-inflammatory substance.
Egg whites
Egg whites may be safe to come into direct skin contact with, but should never be used as an oral, vaginal, or anal lubricant during oral, vaginal, or anal sex. Unpasteurized egg whites contain salmonella which can lead to serious infection of the genital area. Furthermore, using dry egg whites increases tearing during vaginal or anal penetration and risk for transmission of sexually transmitted infections (STI).
However, some women swear by egg whites as lubricant, believing it can ease cervical mucus and boost sperm motility; some also claim it can increase fertility (although this has yet to be proven scientifically). Baby or olive oils would be safer options as these are clean and safe to use; it would also be wise to perform a patch test first as these oils can potentially cause irritation as they can clog pores which leads to thrush and vaginal odor issues.
