The vulva should be cleaned daily using warm water and mild soap to maintain proper pH balance and keep friendly bacteria alive. Housses, on the other hand, may upset this balance and kill beneficial organisms that help keep our bodies running smoothly. Avoid rubbing the area as much as possible and only wipe your anus and vulva without wiping onto the rectum!

Learning more about your vulva can help you detect when something is out of the ordinary, including any abnormal smells, itching or burning which could indicate imbalance or infection.

Hygiene

On a typical drugstore aisle, there will likely be numerous products aimed at intimate hygiene; such as feminine hygiene wipes and deodorants. While these may seem necessary at first, these can actually do more damage than good by disturbing the delicate pH balance in the vulva’s pH level and stripping away essential bacteria that help protect its balance.

The vulva encompasses the external part of your genitalia, including your pubic mound, clitoris, labia and vagina. It also encompasses your urethra which leads to your urinary bladder. Although your vulva can clean itself naturally with regular use of gentle cleansers or by bathing regularly with warm water and mild soap (not inside!), daily cleansing with warm water and mild soap (but never inside!) will further aid its functionality and cleanliness.

Always opt for lukewarm rather than hot or cold water when washing the area beneath your clothing, using mild, fragrance-free soap without exfoliation scrubs that could irritate skin further down there. Always dry it after each washing session and consider wearing loose and breathable clothing such as women’s boyshorts to reduce moisture accumulation.

Sleep

A healthy vagina is composed of many species of bacteria. Good bacteria help maintain proper pH levels and ward off infections; in fact, these same good bacteria help to protect against bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections.

Hormonal changes during pregnancy or menopause, disrupt the balance of bacteria in your vaginal ecosystem, leading to symptoms like itching and burning, excessive discharge or painful sex. Therefore it’s crucial that women understand these hormonal shifts and their impact on vaginal health.

Proper personal hygiene practices can play an essential role in supporting vaginal health, such as using mild soaps and washes and opting for unscented products. Furthermore, douching should be avoided to preserve the delicate balance of bacteria on vulvae and labiae. Sleeping naked can reduce fungal infection risks caused by moisture build-up while choosing cotton or linen underwear may reduce them further; especially helpful during cold months!

Menstrual products

Menstrual products range from sanitary pads and tampons, which are the two most frequently used. Pads should rest against your vulva to absorb any menstrual flow, while tampons must be changed every few hours regardless of how light or heavy your period may be.

Tampons are designed to absorb menstrual flow by inserting them into the vagina and using a special applicator, but can cause an unpleasant discharge or odor. Girls who leave their tampon in all day and overnight may become at risk for toxic shock syndrome, an extremely rare but serious condition.

Menstrual cups made from medical-grade silicone that can be worn inside the vagina are becoming increasingly popular as natural alternatives to tampons, such as menstrual cups made by washing your hands before doing a squat or sitting down on the toilet with legs apart to insert one. These 2-inch long devices come equipped with loops or notches so that when removed they can easily hook onto fingers to be taken off. In order to insert or take off such cups properly you’ll need to wash your hands first then get into position by doing squatting or sitting with legs apart when inserting. To insert or take off such cups just wash your hands then take your finger or hook finger through loop or notches on either end and then pull them off using hooks/notches on either end until finger hook/notches/loop/notchs so your finger hook/notch can hook onto fingers when removed by hooking finger into loop/notchs on either end so they’re easily taken off for removal. To insert or take one just wash your hands then put both feet apart when sitting or doing squat/or sitting with both legs apart when sitting/seated toilet/ sitting with legs apart or do both squat/or sitting/ sitting toilet seat/legs apart when sitting/reclining/position your legs/ seated / position the cup, to hook onto loop or notches to use or hook in loop or notches to hook into finger to hook in hook your finger (s). To insert or use either loop/notch. To use one such cup inserted, wash hands thoroughly a position your body or both legs/ sitting/ sitting and then position either doing/ sitting/ reclining/

Nutrition

The skin around the genital area is highly delicate, making it susceptible to harsh chemicals, dyes and fragrances found in soaps, shampoos and feminine hygiene products such as soap. Washing with plain, lukewarm water using fragrance-free hypoallergenic soaps and cleansers is ideal for keeping vulva healthy; changing tampons/pads four or five times per day during periods helps avoid bacteria buildup.

Consuming probiotic-rich foods such as yogurt, kefir and kimchi helps promote healthy microflora populations while maintaining balanced pH levels and vaginal lubrication. Furthermore, such probiotic-rich foods may assist in the treatment of yeast infections and other common health conditions common among women.

Eating a diet low in processed food, sugars and unhealthy fats promotes digestive health while decreasing systemic inflammation. A well-functioning gut is vital to maintaining an ideal pH balance and immune function – ultimately benefitting overall vaginal wellness. Incorporating sleep for at least 7-9 hours each night into daily routine, employing stress reduction techniques as well as maintaining a healthy body weight are additional ways of improving vaginal health.
