Bakuchiol has become an increasingly popular ingredient in skincare products, including our award-winning bareLUXE serum. However, it’s important to keep in mind that when products claim they contain “babchi seed oil or extract”, what they actually contain is Psoralea corylifolia seed oil/extract rather than pure bakuchiol.
This complex botanical mixture still contains phototoxic furocoumarins (psoralens), among other phytochemicals that could harm skin health.
What is Bakuchiol?
Bakuchiol is a plant-derived active ingredient that offers some distinct advantages over its counterparts retinol and other retinoid derivatives, while still providing benefits of its own. Bakuchiol brightens and smoothes skin by helping accelerate cell turnover; in addition, it may reduce fine lines and wrinkles, refine texture and even out discolouration. Plus, its soothing nature may even boost natural resistance against environmental stressors – making it perfect for sensitive skin types!
Since bakuchiol is less likely to cause irritation, you can use it both morning and night without worry of irritation. Cosmetic chemist and The Beauty Brains co-host Valerie George recommends not mixing it with other exfoliators such as benzoyl peroxide, prescription-strength retinols, high concentration vitamin C formulas or benzoyl peroxide; this could result in overexfoliation. Exception: If you already use retinoids bakuchiol might help your current regimen more. Additionally, avoid using together with sunscreen as this could increase sun sensitivity.
Is Bakuchiol safe for my skin?
Bakuchiol is an ideal alternative to retinoids, offering many of their same benefits such as fade dark spots and improving skin tone, yet is much gentler on sensitive skin types. Furthermore, it helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles as well as improve texture and boost radiance – plus being safe to use during daytime as it won’t breakdown when exposed to sunlight.
As with any new skincare ingredient, incorporating bakuchiol gradually is best. Add it to a serum or oil-based moisturizer, and layer it beneath your sunscreen each morning.
Bakuchiol should also be combined with other active ingredients, like vitamin C. Studies have demonstrated this combination can significantly boost its effectiveness and accelerate skin-repair effects; just ensure to apply both products gently, conducting a patch test before adding them into your regimen.
What is the difference between babchi oil and bakuchiol?
Bakuchiol and babchi oil both come from seeds of the Psoralea corylifolia plant, but have very different skin benefits. Making babchi oil requires only pressing of seeds; on the other hand, to isolate pure chemical compound for Bakuchiol production it requires more complex equipment that isolates it completely.
Due to this reason, it can be more challenging to locate skincare products with bakuchiol than those containing babchi oil. When purchasing specific bakuchiol products, their ingredients may usually list it under “Psoralea corylifolia seed oil” or just “babchi seed oil.”
Although seemingly unlikely, both babchi oil and bakuchiol have long been used in Ayurvedic medicine as skin-healing and rejuvenating agents. Bakuchiol serves as a natural retinol alternative which can reduce dark spots, fine lines and wrinkles while simultaneously stimulating collagen for plumper skin – ideal for all skin types!
Is babchi oil safe to use during pregnancy?
Bakuchiol, a plant-based skincare ingredient similar to retinol, makes an effective anti-ageing treatment. It can reduce fine lines, improve skin elasticity and increase cell turnover while its antioxidant properties help calm redness or irritation in red skin areas. Derived from Psoralea corylifolia seeds sourced responsibly and ethically so as not to overharvest and cause agricultural exploitation or environmental harm, Bakuchiol must also be grown sustainably so as not to harm our planet or its ecosystems.
Babchi seeds are packed with vitamin C, making them a powerful skin healing remedy. Their high melanin production can treat vitiligo, psoriasis and eczema effectively; additionally they’re an excellent hair growth booster and great at treating conditions such as dandruff or scalp infections. In addition, these seeds make great digestive aids; aiding constipation; natural heart tonics that improve circulation; as well as soothing fever and soothing coughs when inhaled via steam inhalations!
