hemp extract

Hemp extract is an integral component of many wellness products. But not all hemp extracts are created equal; therefore, it’s crucial that you know what exactly is in the bottle before purchasing anything.

Hemp belongs to the cannabis sativa family of plants, alongside marijuana (with its psychoactive chemical tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, responsible for providing that psychoactive “high”). But unlike marijuana, hemp contains only trace amounts of THC and may legally be used commercially.

What Is Hemp Extract?

Hemp extract has grown increasingly popular as an alternative wellness treatment. Studies have demonstrated its efficacy at relieving pain, anxiety and depression while aiding sleep, digestion and skin health.

Hemp extract can be prepared by submerging green parts of a hemp plant into food-grade solvent, such as ethanol. This dissolves its constituent compounds such as cannabinoids and phytonutrients such as fatty acids into solution so as to extract these vital components of hemp’s makeup such as aromatic molecules called terpenes.

Hemp (Cannabis sativa L) contains low levels of delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive compound responsible for making people “high.” Hemp has many uses and can be grown in various regions across the country.

What Is CBD Oil?

CBD oil is a natural substance derived from cannabis sativa (hemp). It’s widely used to alleviate anxiety, insomnia and pain symptoms without producing the high associated with THC marijuana use.

CBD works by engaging receptors within the endocannabinoid system to support homeostasis and balance in the body, providing a soothing effect and helping alleviate stress.

CBD products come in many different formats, from oils for vape pens to capsules and beauty products. CBD oil is one of the most common CBD-containing products on the market; this liquid extract can be taken orally. Diluting it with carrier oils like coconut or hemp seed oil helps dilute its potency for easier absorption, with packaging often showing its percentage concentration.

What Is the Difference Between Hemp Extract and CBD Oil?

Hemp extract, CBD oil and hemp seed oil all derive from cannabis sativa plant. But they differ considerably in terms of ingredients used and processes employed during production.

Traditionally, hemp oil is extracted using ethanol as the solvent; however, an increasing number of companies are opting for CO2 extraction as this method provides for cleaner extraction processes that yield higher-quality products.

Hemp seed oil differs from hemp extract and CBD oil in that it only contains trace amounts of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). Extracted by pressing hemp seeds, hemp seed oil contains high concentrations of omega fatty acids like gamma linolenic acid which has anti-inflammatory properties.

What Are the Side Effects of Hemp Extract?

Hemp extract is an all-natural treatment with reports of its curative properties ranging from skin health improvement to relieving chronic pain relief. Scientific evidence is growing; however, additional research must be completed in order to validate these claims.

Hemp oil is packed with polyunsaturates such as omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, along with anti-inflammatory compounds like gamma linolenic acid, making it an excellent way to combat inflammation in the body linked with heart disease and diabetes. These nutrients may also help protect against diseases associated with that inflammation such as cardiovascular conditions or diabetes.

One small study conducted in 2005 demonstrated how hemp seed oil could alleviate some eczema symptoms for certain patients. Furthermore, participants reported taking hemp oil for eight weeks improved their ability to cope with stress; researchers attribute this benefit to its fatty acids that strengthen cell membranes.

How to Find a Good Hemp Extract Product

Look for a hemp extract product without additives such as sweeteners and colors, with liquid consistency and clear labeling, listing ingredients in order of importance. Avoid products using an enzyme-based degradation process to remove THC, as this can reduce oil quality while harming other beneficial compounds such as terpenes.

Eschew companies that rely on chemical solvents such as butane and propane that leave residue behind. Instead, look for ones using supercritical carbon dioxide extraction; it is considered one of the safest and highest quality methods of CBD delivery and delivers results without leaving behind any unpleasant chemical traces or unpleasant scents. Keep an eye out for products with milligram counts on their labels for best results!
